I’m constantly strategizing and building, whether I’m dropping live streams or video-on-demand content. My days often include a small mid-day reset, usually between 11 AM and 3 PM, to recalibrate and keep my focus sharp. I’m always looking to generate millions of views for businesses, and I do this for free. But here’s the thing: not everyone appreciates that. Some people, in fact, seem to thrive on challenging others.
In the past, I used to fall into the trap of trying to defend myself and prove my worth. Someone would say, ‘OK, where’s that based upon?’ or make negative comments. I’d feel the urge to explain, to show them the facts. But I’ve learned a crucial lesson: that’s a total waste of time and effort.
The Problem: The Silent Saboteurs and Energy Drainers
We live in an era where everything can be tracked. My content, my work – it’s all visible. I even have a Google AI Business Agent that people can chat with to get information. Yet, some individuals still choose to operate from a place of negativity. They’ll leave negative comments, mock your efforts, and try to poke holes in your process. This isn’t about constructive feedback; it’s about trying to pull you down.
I’ve seen this behavior firsthand. I know the history of some of these people. They’re often stuck in a ‘mocking business,’ constantly making negative comments on other people’s posts. What I’ve come to understand is that negative people, especially those who feel like they’re failing in their own endeavors, need to express their discontent. And sadly, they often do this by attempting to pull other people down.
It’s an exhausting cycle, trying to prove yourself to someone whose sole intent is to diminish your efforts. Imagine wasting precious hours, days, or even weeks trying to convince someone who has no interest in your success. That’s a lot of time you could be investing in your own growth and projects.
Two Kinds of Challengers: Know the Difference
I believe there are two categories of people who challenge you:
- The Optimizers: These individuals challenge you to help you see how you can improve and optimize your processes. They genuinely want to help you grow and refine your segments in any growth process. This is a whole different angle, driven by a positive intent to elevate.
- The Drainers: These are the ones who challenge you in a negative way. Their goal is to find gaps, identify anything they deem ‘unrealistic,’ and then use it to pull you down. They want to expose perceived flaws so you feel the need to prove yourself, draining your energy and focus.
It’s vital to differentiate between these two. Engaging with the latter is like trying to fill a bottomless pit; it’s an endless, fruitless endeavor.
The Solution: Protect Your Peace and Master Your Focus
My main takeaway for you is simple: don’t waste a single second on a person who tries to challenge you with the intent to pull you down.
- Don’t Engage, Disengage: Instead of defending yourself or trying to prove your worth, do the opposite. Realize you have nothing to prove to someone operating from a negative mindset, especially if they view the world as a bad place or are discontent with their own accomplishments.
- Prioritize Your Peace: Your peace is more important than anything else on this planet. Of course, in a relationship, the dynamics shift a bit, but in general, maintaining your internal peace allows you to serve the world better with your value and positive energy.
- Understand Human Behavior (Without Judgment): I’m obsessed with human behavior; I spend 18 hours a day studying it. I understand where negativity comes from. It’s often an expression of personal failure or discontent. But understanding doesn’t mean engaging.
- Cut Off Distractions: Stay away from people who are constantly surrounded by large groups (10-15+ people). In my opinion, the quality of such relationships is often non-existent. People who cannot be alone or constantly need external stimulation often aren’t comfortable with themselves. They’re not ready to go ‘all in’ with their own businesses because they’re too busy seeking external validation or distraction.
- Don’t Put Oil on the Fire: Gossip is inevitable, but you don’t have to contribute to it. In the past, I’d get pissed off when I’d read lies about myself in newspapers. Now, I understand that engaging with that negativity only fuels it.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Many seek ‘local fame,’ but I always say: be very careful what you wish for. I used to desire recognition in specific areas, but now, nearing 48, my goal for the next 52 years is simply to help as many people as I can.
- Spend Seconds, Not Minutes: Quickly assess people’s intentions. Do they genuinely want to help you optimize, or do they want to drag you to the drain? Every time you get distracted, it delays your progress. Don’t get emotionally attached to any ‘idiot’ (and I say that with the utmost respect, as I often reflect on my own ‘idiotic’ past decisions).
- Embrace the Growth Mindset: You’re never ‘good enough’ – embrace it! There are millions better than you, and 10 million worse. Take the middle ground, and just keep moving forward, faster and faster.
Summary: Your Path to Unstoppable Growth
The journey to personal and business growth is an exciting one, but it’s also fraught with distractions and negative influences. By deliberately choosing to protect your peace, identifying the true intentions of those who challenge you, and refusing to waste time on energy drainers, you can stay focused on your goals. Remember, it’s not about being an angel or proving anything to anyone. It’s about being obsessed with your own progress, learning from every interaction, and channeling your energy towards creating value. Be aware, stay grounded, and keep moving forward – your future self will thank you for every second you didn’t waste.
